The new Nike home jersey that Chelsea will don throughout the 2022–2023 campaign, honors Ted Drake, one of the most significant figures in the club’s history.

Drake was the one who decided to change the team’s moniker from “the Pensioners” to “the Blues,” considering that it better reflected the exciting team he was assembling in west London. Since then, the nickname has persisted, and “the Blues” can be seen in the embroidery on the collar’s buttons of the new garment.

With the “lion rampant regardant” still present and serving as inspiration for the Pride of London, the current logo is generally comparable to the one that was first worn on the team’s jerseys during Drake’s final season at the Bridge in 1960–1961.
